When it comes to straightening your locks with a flat iron, there are many dos and donts. First off, make sure you have a ceramic straightening iron. The ceramic irons help seal your hair’s cuticle and create shine while locking in your hair’s natural moisture.

It is extremely important to make sure your hair is completely dry before you begin to straighten. Any extreme moisture in your hair will cause your locks to literally fry. Be sure to completely blow dry your hair, brush it, and blow it dry more. This will help release any moisture that is locked between your strands.

When you’re ready to begin straightening, be sure to separate your hair into manageable sections using clips. They more hair you try to handle, the more likely you are to break your strands (thats where those annoying fly-aways come from). When straightening, be sure to start at the root and glide the iron all the way down to the tip. Don’t grip the iron too tightly, a small amount of pressure goes a long way.

After you are sleek and straight, add some body by curling the ends of your hair with the straightener. Spray your mane with some hair wax or flexible spray, then run your fingers through to piece it apart. For more body, flip your head and shake your hair out with your fingers then spritz it with some spray.

You’ve seen it advertised, you’ve heard the pitch, but have you ever tried mineral makeup? I finally took the plunge and bought the bareMinerals kit, and I now find myself twirling, tapping, and buffing every morning.

Mineral makeup is a genius marketing plan – it has created a new demand for an old product. This “makeup from the earth” has actually been around since the 1970s; yet it’s rebirth has just now created a buzz. The question is – is the pitch of a safer, more natural makeup legitimate? In actuality, the ingredients in mineral makeup have been in makeup for years. So what makes it better?

In my opinion, whether the ingredients are revolutionary or not, I am impressed with the overall feel of bareMinerals. It looks like a power, goes on like a light cream, and lasts like a foundation – all while feeling like you’re not wearing any makeup. Even more impressive, you’ll never have to use an additional concealer – the brushes do all the work. The first brush gives you a light base, the second can get those areas that need a little more coverage, and the third covers and dark spots or blemishes like magic.

Additionally, bareMinerals has SPF 15 in it, which is a major plus in my book. Granted, I still use a light moisturizer with SPF in it (it just feels like it would protect from those rays better than a powder), but I like that extra protection in my makeup.

The only con I have found is that it adds a few minuets onto my morning routine. It’s a 3-4 step process just to get a base on your face. But I like the end result, so I’ll wake up 5 minutes early in order to have time to swirl and tap.

Keep in mind there is no one makeup that works for everyone. BareMinerals does contain an ingredient called bismuth oxychloride.
